Job Purpose 
  • To manage all advocacy related tasks and activities as per strategic plans and decisions for Save the Children to achieve advocacy objectives for policy formulation, campaigns, changes and implementation on child rights and their development with the outcome of effecting change at state and national levels. The post will also ensure support to campaigns to ensure all campaign activity are in sync with our policy / advocacy objectives. Liaise with local/national/international alliances on advocacy related issues.
Tasks and Responsibilities
  • Coordinate and collaborate with thematic managers, state offices to Identify, plan and implement advocacy and policy work related to SC’s core areas at the national level.
  • Manage & lead the strategic development of powerful, creative, and engaging advocacy initiatives and ensure the timely delivery of advocacy activities to bring about policy change and campaigning activity.
  • Develop a central annual advocacy plan and facilitate in preparing state and projects advocacy plans (technical support).
  • Undertake capacity building initiative for partners, project staffs to initiate and roll out advocacy plans.
  • Track monitor and document progress and status of advocacy interventions and reporting.
  • Keep abreast of and engage in broader development policy analysis and cross cutting policy processes in collaboration with GM Policy Advocacy and Research Manager.
  • Strategically develop links with third party organisations and networks to deliver common goals related to campaigns.
  • Lobby and engage with government departments (including political establishments) related to advocacy work.
  • Occasionally depute for the GM – Policy & Advocacy and contribute to strategic planning.
  • Lead the development of policy briefs in consultation with National Thematic Managers and Manager, Knowledge Management
  • Engage effectively with current development issues and keep abreast of the latest in the domain of child rights in India
  • Support GM Policy and Advocacy in developing annual budget and strategy
  • Providing inputs to the various policy and advocacy related paper, discussion and recommendations with child rights lenses.
  • Leading the advocacy projects, advocacy components on the multi state projects and guiding project partners on effective policy advocacy
  • Inputs and support to the Knowledge management in advocacy related data analysis.
  • Developing concept notes, ToR and proposal for the policy and advocacy projects.
  • A Master’s in Development Studies from a recognized university is essential 
Minimum Experience
  • At least 7-10 years of relevant experience in the field of child rights 
  • Prior experience of working with political representatives, government ministries/department, coalition/association/networks of NGOs.
  • Ability to establish new contacts and maintain existing relationships with key policy influencers.
  • Prior experience of having conducted successful policy analysis of child rights’ issues
  • Strong written skills and ability to speak effectively in public meetings and represent SC’s views
  • Convincing interpersonal communication skills to be persuasive both internally & externally.
  • Prior experience of having organized advocacy initiatives in collaboration with children
  • Commitment to SC’s mission, values and approach (includes child safeguarding, equal opportunities and health and safety). 
  • Understanding of the broad landscape of international development issues and specific child rights policies on child protection, education, health and nutrition, and disaster risk reduction and emergencies.
  • Understanding of the global healthcare agenda. Understanding of children’s agenda around health and nutrition. Experience of advocacy with children.
