 Purpose of the Role:
  • Our client is an independent, non-profit, research and educational think tank.Their unique focus on public policy and longer-term solutions requires them to be constantly in the dialogue with all stakeholders to move the needle on their mission. Advocacy is critical in this narrative building. They require a experienced person to look after the policy advocacy department of the organization.
Tasks and Responsibilities
Major Functions:
  • Develop advocacy goals and themes in conjunction with the team and the organization’s Board
  • Identify, plan for and execute advocacy campaigns for taking forward the organization’s mission and its programmes
  • Organise dialogues, workshops, seminars to push the organization’s mission for its different stakeholder groups
  • Represent the organization’s work and its philosophy at all relevant forums across all its stakeholder groups
  • Create seat at the table for the organization in important gatherings/ conferences
  • Articulate the organization’s response to new/modified policies that impact individual choice, institutional accountability
  • Develop and consolidate relevant partnerships to advocate for policy change
  • Networking with media, government, bureaucrats, academia, policy advisory, corporates
  • As a member of the Senior Leadership Team there will be responsibilities related to organisational strategy, sustainability fund raising 
Major Duties and Responsibilities
Ensuring that:
  • The organization’s point of view is articulated in the most persuasive manner and is communicated to the various stakeholders regularly
  • The organization’s continues to be seen as the leading voice of market liberal thinking in India
  • The organization’s brand’s design and ‘tone of voice’ integrity is maintained in all internal and external communications
  • The organization’s has a seat at the table on all important occasions related to its mission
  • The organization’s responds quickly to dynamic changes in environment relating to policies, legal rulings and so on
  • The organization’s has a strong partner/coalition base
  • Projects are done on time, within budget and to the highest quality
  • All events and programmes designed for advocacy are planned and executed for highest impact
  • Master’s/PhD from a recognized institute
Minimum Experience
  • over 4-7 years of experience in legislative reform campaigns, program management or research
  • Demonstrated success in policy reform campaigns in India that have used multi-pronged approaches to achieve concrete, measurable results
  • Experience in leadership roles in a corporate, government or non-profit environment, with increasing levels of responsibility
  • Comfort with constantly shifting landscape and capacity to adjust to it quickly
  • Ability to make judgment calls with incomplete information, potential conflicts in different stakeholder positions, differing priorities
  • Ability to set shorter term benchmarks and work towards them consistently
  • Possessing high resilience and ability to motivate people in the absence of tangible achievements
  • Being constantly on the lookout for opportunities and challenges for serving the interest of the mission
  • Possessing strong knowledge of how the public policy ecosystem operates
  • Deep understanding of what is required by media to make for an effective communication piece
  • Understanding of different communication channels including digital, audio visual and print
  • Ability to create compelling narratives for different audiences to advance the mission
  • Working knowledge of budgets and financial management
  • Outstanding skills in oral and written communication to external and internal audiences, one-on-one and public
  • Demonstrated ability of leading as a mentor
  • Ability to thrive in diversity – of thought, people, issues
  • Being a constant learner
  • At ease with networking and setting up relationships
