Job Description
Atma is a second tier consultancy NGO based in Mumbai, founded by expatriates in 2006. Through intensive long-term consultations Atma's work is focused on intensive capacity building processes with local partner NGOs to bring about long term and sustainable planning to their programs. Atma does this by offering four main services, volunteer, consultancy, training and exchange platforms. Founded in India this pro-bono service raises funds locally to support programmes. An always dynamic, innovative and fast paced work environment Atma is currently looking to greatly expand its own programme offering and scale operations.

Chief Executive Officer

Atma is seeking a dynamic and experienced CEO to lead the organization into the next significant growth stage of the organization. The CEO will need require exceptional interpersonal and communication skills, a proven track record of leadership capability and solid NGO and development sector experience and knowledge.

The CEO will be responsible for the overall vision, direction and organizational management of the NGO, and assure that the organization has a long-range strategy which achieves its mission. The CEO will need to be a charismatic and practical leader, committed to directing and driving the daily operations of the organization, fundraising requirements and financial transparency of the organization and deliver quality service to Atma partner NGOs, and long term strategic focus.

Key Responsibilities

The CEO will be overall responsible for leading the organization, as well as being accountable, and taking direction from the Trustee Board. The CEO will need to take proactive and leadership to maintain the organizations mission, and manage the;
  • Overall organizational strategy and management
  • Operational and Personnel Management
  • Good Governance and transparency
  • Program management and Oversight
  • Evaluation and reporting
  • Communications and Public Relations 
  • Fundraising and Financial management
  • The successful candidate will be responsible for Atma's overall programme management, overseeing and management of all NGO partnerships, coaching and managing staff and services and ensuring that systems are in place to allow the organization to monitor and evaluate the progress and impact of all program activities. 
Key competencies and experience required

A successful candidate will have:
  • Results-proven track record of NGO Leadership and Management of at least 5 years.
  • A Masters degree required; MBA or similar advanced degree highly desired.
  • Evidence of the ability to consistently make good decisions through a combination of analysis, wisdom, experience, and judgement.
  • High level of business expertise including successful financial management; the ability to balance the delivery of programs against the realities of a budget; and problem solving, project management, and creative resourcefulness.
  • Ability to think strategically, anticipate future consequences and trends, and incorporate them into the organizational plan. 
  • Ability to effectively build organization and staff capacity, developing a top-notch workforce and the processes that ensure the organization runs smoothly.
  • Exceptional capacity for managing and leading people; a team builder who has experience in scaling up organizations; ability to connect staff both on an individual level and in large groups; capacity to enforce accountability, develop and empower leaders from the bottom up, lead from the top down, cultivate entrepreneurship, and learn the strengths and weaknesses of the team so as to put people in a position to succeed.
  • Enjoys working hard and looks for challenges; able to act and react as necessary, even if limited information is available; not afraid to take charge of a situation; can overcome resistance to leadership and take unpopular stands when necessary.
  • Sound and thorough understanding of finance, systems, and HR; broad experience with the full range of business functions and systems, including strategic development and planning, budgeting, business analysis, finance, information systems, human resources and marketing.
  • Strong spoken and written English and Hindi language skills.
