Job Opportunity at IFMR Trust Advocacy Unit, India

IFMR Trust (www.ifmrtrust.co.in) seeks to ensure that every individual and every enterprise in India has complete access to financial services. IFMR Trust’s Advocacy Unit (ITAU) determines the priorities (research and programming) for the group that will enable it to deliver on its mission. The Trust has to date, promoted a network of last-mile rural financial institutions, a rural supply chain focused PE Fund and a guarantee company. The ITAU also convenes relationships with a variety of research groups that inform our understanding of financial access.

IFMR Trust invites applications from candidates with a Master’s or PhD degree in Economics, Management, Finance, Public Policy, Development Studies or other relevant social science disciplines. The position is within the ITAU and will involve developing priorities and strategy for undertaking research and supporting systemic innovations to facilitate financial inclusion; co-developing, guiding and ensuring quality in projects and partnerships; undertaking dissemination and active advocacy for change in policy and practice; all with the vision of achieving universal financial inclusion in India. He/she will work closely with IFMR Trust’s research and programming partners.

Our ideal candidate would be deeply passionate about financial markets development and will bring urgency to achieving change in financial access outcomes in India. He/she will have strong analytical ability, agility to switch between research and practical action, have a penchant for systemic thinking and enjoy reading and writing on relevant issues. He/she can work in an environment with evolving roles and responsibilities and can be at ease in a multi-disciplinary, multi-cultural team.

All positions are based in Chennai (Tamil Nadu, India). The job would involve travel, often to remote rural locations.
