The IFMR Trust

IFMR Trust is a private trust whose mission is ensuring universal access to financial services across India. We focus on under-served regions of rural India.

Our strategy for achieving this mission entails:

  1. High-quality and sustainable channels for origination (credit) and distribution (non-credit financial services) that reach out to under-served locations of rural India
  2. Well-functioning rural supply chains
  3. Funding structures that use capital judiciously
  4. An aggressive learning environment that informs regulation and innovation

Consistent with this strategy, IFMR Trust has promoted four key ventures:

  • IFMR Rural Finance (earlier IFMR Holdings), which rolls out Kshetriya Gramin Financial Services (KGFS) for the distribution of financial services in rural India
  • IFMR Ventures (earlier IFMR Trust Advisory Services), an Asset Management Company that is launching its first equity fund, IFMR Trust's Network Enterprises Fund™ (NEF). The NEF will harness commercial capital to address key gaps in rural supply chains.
  • IFMR Capital (earlier IFMR Trust Guarantee Company), to provide smooth access to debt markets for asset originators that are relevant to rural, low-income households, through structuring, guarantees and market-making.
  • IFMR Capital (earlier IFMR Foundation) , a not-for-profit company that focuses on bridging knowledge, practice and regulatory gaps in pursuit of the mission of the IFMR Trust.

We bring to our efforts expertise in the design, delivery and scaling of financial services and a deep understanding of mainstream markets.

Many of our efforts are guided by practical insights gained from action-research conducted at specialised centres of our affiliate, Institute Financial Management and Research (IFMR), Chennai. These centres are our Thought Partners.

IFMR Trust has thus far invested INR 300 million (USD 7.5 million) in various commercial enterprises in multiple sectors. We have also made strategic investments to provide technology and infrastructure support to our ventures.
