Infosys is on hiring spree; plans to hire 20,000 new employees

Infosys has announced its plan to hire a large number of developers this year. The IT major plans to double the headcount in its Hyderabad SEZ campus.

The company’s campus in Pocharam, Hyderabad currently employs 20,000 employees. The new plan is to take it to 40,000. Infosys is also evaluating prospects for establishing a new facility in Warangal. The IT firm is working closely with the Telangana state government to create employment opportunities.

Infosys’s COO Pravin Rao announced the company’s hiring plan at World Environment Day program organized in the Infosys campus on Friday. Telangana IT Minister K.T. Rama Rao was also present at the event. Infosys has assured serious consideration to starting the Warangal campus.

As of now, Infosys has campuses in Pocharam and Gachibowli in Hyderabad. The company prefers tier-II locations such as Warangal to create an ecosystem. The new ecosystem in Warangal will be an important development center of Infosys, it will also support operations and new talent.

Infosys had set up its Pocharam campus eight years ago. According to a couple of Infosys executives, the IT firm has over 20,000 employees working at Pocharam campus. The plan is to take it to 40,000. Infosys has not disclosed any timeline to complete the hiring process. 


The infrastructure for the second phase of Pocharam campus was under construction. The work has been completed now. The second phase can accommodate 15,000 to 20,000 more people. The state government has extended the support to help Infosys with infrastructure development.

India’s pioneer IT firm has been through a major turmoil last year. The disagreement between co-founders and board has caused enough troubles for company’s growth. The split between former CEO Vishal Sikka and Infosys co-founder Narayana Murthy had pushed back the firm. The company is doing great under new CEO Salil Parekh’s leadership.

Telangana’s IT Minister, Rama Rao has urged Infosys to expand operations in Hyderabad. He mentioned that the company’s 40% workforce in Bengaluru is Telangana and Andhra Pradesh. These employees would prefer working in Hyderabad and Warangal.
